This month’s theme: Best In Class

This month we’re going back to school, as the former head of Stanford University’s Office of Licensing and Technology Ventures leads a discussion with some of the top innovation officers at Duke and UNC. We’ll also get a master class in building a strong supply chain for improved medical device and pharma products, and learn from the experts about selecting and partnering with a clinical research organization. Don’t you feel smarter already?

Clinical Research Outsourcing: Building Strong CRO Partnerships

DISCUSSION | 4:15-5:15pm

Nearly every company developing drugs or medical devices will need outside expertise preparing for clinical trials. This session will explore how to select a partner and share real-life tips to create a strong working relationship between a company and a clinical research organization or consultant.

Leading experts in clinical development will discuss which functions to outsource or keep in-house, how to manage the transfer of responsibilities for conducting clinical trials, and best practices to ensure appropriate oversight. Whether you are preparing for a clinical trial or simply learning about the process, this session will offer a view from all sides on the steps to build a successful partnership.

Good Supply Practices: Getting Supply Chain Right the First Time

TALK | 4:45-5:30pm

Biomarkers are changing how we discover and cure diseases. They can tell you which diseases you are at risk for and how your body will respond to a particular environment. Biomarkers are also changing how we deal with cancer, from prevention to diagnosis to using immuno-oncology. Why is this important? Because worldwide more than 18 million people will be diagnosed with cancer and 9 million will succumb to the disease. Our panelists will explain how biomarkers are playing a role in the war on cancer.

Startup Essentials: Working with Universities

PANEL | 5:30-6:30pm

Universities are the source of much original research that ultimately leads to the medical advances that benefit us all. Our panelists will help navigate the process of patenting intellectual property, licensing technology from a university and managing conflicts of interest so that basic science is translated into a commercial business. If you’ve ever wondered where to begin a conversation to engage the drivers of innovation inside our region’s academic centers—or if you’re interested in accessing startup resources on campus—this is the chance to learn from the experts.
