Join the LES Research Triangle Park Chapter at their next event: Keep Calm and CRISPR On – The State of the Science, Business, & Ethics of CRISPR

Research in the early 2000s began to shed light on the capabilities of CRISPR to function as a gene editing tool that can very efficiently delete, repair or replace genes.

CRISPR was then rapidly recognized for its potential applications in research, therapeutics, agriculture and industrial biotechnology.

Enthusiasm around CRISPR has been met with concerns regarding intellectual property battles, potential off-target mutations and ethical implications surrounding its use in humans. Meanwhile, breakthroughs in CRISPR technology continue to arise from both the commercial and academic sectors which could enhance target specificity and fine-tune CRISPR for various applications. The number of CRISPR-related startup companies is exploding and the first CRISPR-related clinical trial in the U.S. began earlier this year.

This presentation will provide an overview of the state of CRISPR and its applications, including the commercial landscape for CRISPR technologies, hurdles for advancement, and ethical, regulatory and policy considerations for application of these technologies.

Speaker: Dr. Rodolphe Barrangou, world renowned expert and pioneer in the discovery and application of CRISPR technology.

Online registration is required. Tickets are $35 for LES members; $40 for non-members. Lunch will be provided.
